Premig isused for migraines and the prevention of nausea and vomiting. It treatsthe symptoms associated with migraine. These symptoms include nausea,headache and vomiting. It is a non-steroidal drug and doesn’t causeinflammation. Premig consists of two active ingredients, which arelysine acetylsalicylate and Metoclopramide. Lysine acetylsalicylate iscommonly known as Aspirin, and acts as a painkiller. Aspirin belongs tothe group of medicines which are both non-steroidal andnon-inflammatory. The other ingredient, Metoclopramide, is useful fortreating the sickness and vomiting accompanying the migraine. Bothingredients are used together because metoclopramide enhances theabsorption of aspirin, which can otherwise be slowed due to gastricstasis.
It is recommended that Premig should be takenas soon as possible when a migraine attack begins, for maximumeffectiveness. This is because the absorption of Acetylsalicylatelysine can be slowed during migraine attacks because of their severity.The effective dosage of Premig is 3 sachets a day. However, you cantake varying doses in accordance with what has been prescribed by yourdoctor. It is highly recommended that the doses should not be exceededfor increasing effectiveness, and the prescription should be followedexactly. Before obtaining a prescription, you should tell the doctorabout your exact medical conditions and whether you are allergic to anyingredients. If you are taking insulin, Phenobarbital, Amobarbital,herbal medicines, vitamins or any other painkilling medication, youshould inform the doctor.
Premig cures nausea andprevents vomiting as well as relieving the pain. The Metoclopramide inPremig takes acts by blocking the dopamine receptors, which are foundin the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain. Metoclopramide causesthe muscles in the stomach to contract, hence causing the food in thestomach to move to the intestines. This helps in preventing vomitingand also cures the heartburn felt due to the fullness of the stomach.This also makes the absorption of the drug quicker. Premig alsorelieves inflammation, heartburn and stomach pains. This is due to thedrug blocking the production of Prostaglandins, which are responsiblefor causing inflammation, swelling and pain.
While taking Premig you should be careful as it causes drowsiness, andyou should not drive unless you are sure about the affect that the drughas on you. The most common side effects of the drug are drowsiness,depression, skin rashes or other allergic reactions, blood disorders,fatigue, restlessness and dizziness. In some cases, it can also causean inability to sleep. There can also be some other reactions to thedrug in which case the doctor should be consulted immediately. Thesereactions include shaking limbs, mood changes and depression, andinvoluntary movements of different parts of the body.
