Movatec Information:
In the busyworld of today, we come across situations when we just can’t take abreak from work or some very important task that could lead todevastating results if left undone. In such situations, joint pain ormild injuries serve to be more than just annoying. They prove to be asevere hindrance in completing the task. Non-SteroidalAnti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are just the right medicines torelieve us from such situations, and enable us to continue our workwith full efficiency.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are medicines which areused to relieve pain, inflammation (swelling), and stiffness caused byosteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, primary dysmenorrhea, athleticinjury or post surgery dental pain. Movatec is one such prominentmedicine. It is prescribed by doctors all over the world due to itsanalgesic (pain relieving) and antipyretic (fever reducing)capabilities. Movatec is also used for treating children with juvenilerheumatoid arthritis (a type of arthritis that occurs in children undertwo years of age).
The human body contains a chemical called prostaglandin, which isresponsible for stimulation of pain nerve cells, fever andinflammation. It is produced by an enzyme in the body calledCyclo-oxygenase. There are two isoforms of this enzyme in the body, namely Cyclo-oxygenase-1 and Cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-I and COX-IIrespectively). COX-I is essential for the maintenance and smoothrunning of certain functions such as kidney function, cardiovascularfunction, gastrointestinal function, liver function etc, whereas COX-IIis responsible for the production of prostaglandin (the pain stimulantchemical). Movatec is COX-II selective inhibitor, which means that itonly affects COX-II enzyme and thus controls the production ofprostaglandin - without causing any harm to functions pertinent toCOX-I.
As Movatec does not affect COX-I, especially when consumed in smalldoses, it is relatively more secure and has less cardiovascular andgastrointestinal side effects than other members of the non-steroidalanti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) family. The active substance inMovatec is “Meloxicam” which belongs to the class of drugs calledenolic acid group, and was developed by Boehringer-Ingelheim (a Germanpharmaceutical company established in 1885).
The effective dosage for Movatec is around 7.5mg a day, and has arelatively longer effectiveness period than other members of the NSAIDfamily. Excess dosage should be avoided as it can cause harm togastrointestinal and cardiovascular functions. Possible side effectsmay include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, sore throat, cough andvomiting. In rare situations it can cause serious liver disease.
People who are allergic to NSAIDs or have a history of allergicreactions or asthma attacks should avoid using Movatec. Also, it shouldnot be used during the last three months of pregnancy, and othermedicines such as aspirins and alcohol should be avoided while usingMovatec as it may increase the risk of ulcer formation.
