Celebrex Information:
In today’sbusy life, more often than not we come across situations in which wejust can’t afford any inefficiency in our work. We may need to attend abusiness meeting or give a very important presentation, but swelling, stiffness or other joint pain (symptoms of arthritis) might prevent usfrom doing so. In these situations, the need for a quick drug, that canrelieve the pain and make us agile, is felt deeply. Celebrex is onesuch drug. It helps relieve pain and swelling and enables us to makethat very important presentation in the office or undertake some otherimportant task.
Celebrex is a fast acting drug. It relieves pain within a few hours andprovides 24-hour pain relief. It gives you enough time to finish upyour important task and make it to your physician for a thoroughcheckup. Body pain is caused by the release of certain chemicals. Thesechemicals are released by an enzyme known as Cyclo-oxygenase. Celebrexis also known as “COX II inhibitor” because it inhibitsCyclo-oxygenase-2, which is the enzyme that produces prostaglandin (achemical in the body that causes pain). By suppressing the productionof this substance, Celebrex significantly reduces pain - thus allowingyou to work normally and finish up your assignments.
Celebrex was developed by G.D. Searle & Company, and is currentlybeing manufactured by Pifzer. It has an effective dosage around200-400mg per day, however the lowest effective dose should be used, asits use in excess can be very harmful. It is a relatively newnon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and contains the activeingredient called celecoxib. Celebrex does not affectCyclo-oxygenase-1, hence it has less side effects on the stomach (suchas gastrointestinal ulceration), compared to other pain relieving dugs.
Like other NSAID drugs, this one also has adverse effects on the heart.People using this drug have a higher chance of heart attack or stroke. The cardiovascular hazards of Celebrex are still somewhatcontroversial. Data from different clinical tests has shown dissimilarresults. According to one study prolonged usage of the drug doesincrease the risks of heart attack and stroke. This drug also containssulfonamide, hence it can cause reactions in people who are allergic todrugs containing sulfonamide.
Celebrex has also shown that it acts as a reducing agent for certaincancers, particularly colorectal cancers. However its use as a cancertreatment drug is still controversial because of its harmful effects onthe heart and blood circulatory system. This drug should not be usedexcessively without a physician’s advice.
